Thimphu the capital of Bhutan is a city which so clearly blends the old to the new. Seek the glorious white peace memorial and enter the land of Tashichho Dzong where distinctive culture distinguishes itself. Take a virtual tour of the country's heritage richness at the National Folk Heritage Museum by seeing the intricate designs of handicrafts, the displays of nation's monuments, and the other architectural features.
In Paro, the serenity is absolute, in the midst of breathtaking mountain vistas. The spiritual stronghold of Paro Taktsang Monastery, better known as the Tiger's Nest Monastery, clings onto the cliff's edge and its vision of the remarkable valley below with its various bending hues is incomparable. Stumble over the ancient vestibules of Rinpung Dzong, where history and greatness combine to form an undying depiction of one time.
Besides the cultural landmarks, both cities are places for outdoor adventures. Explore through virgin and pristine forests, walk on the trails woven with prayer flags and mingle in Bhutan's wilderness without disturbing the natural ecology of the place.
Thimphu and Paro are the entrance to the soul of Bhutan. The spirit of the kingdom welcomes all travelers with warmth to get enchanted by its long tradition and the bestowed beauty. The road in this place is going to be a quest for knowledge and of the wonders that the land will show you.
Day1: Flight to Paro and A drive to Thimpu
The flight to Paro is undeniably the show in the Himalayas. The flight from Kathmandu to Paro along the Himalayan range is a fascinating journey that gives you a glimpse of the Nation and an exciting descent into it. Bhutan’s first gift as you step out from the aircraft and inhale is the cold pure air of the high mountains. Following immigration formalities and baggage collection, our own representative who will meet you then will take you to the capital city Thimphu of Bhutan with enroute stops at Chuzom, the place where the rivers of Paro and Thimphu meet each other. There are three different styles of stupas; Tibetan, Nepalese and Bhutanese that are situated in this confluence. As you near the Chuzom, on your left you can spot TschogangLhakhang, the temple of the excellent horse. It is a private sacred place, which date back to the 15th century, because of appearance of Balaha, the excellent horse, the manifestation of Chenrezig, the compassionate Buddha.
Once you reach Thimphu, check in to the hotel. The capital town of Bhutan and the Government, religion and economic centre, Thimphu is a unique city with a special taste, due to unusual mixture of modern development alongside ancient traditions. Home to about 90,000 it can rightly be called the only capital city not having a traffic light in the world.
Then go to Buddha Point (Kuensel Phodrang which takes around a 15 min drive from the city centre without traffic. A person can get a fair idea of the Thimpu valley from Buddha point (Kuensel Phodrang). With the tallest Buddha in the country, you can bow down, pray and even get a glimpse of the valley. Later visit to Trashichhoedzong: This forbidding fortress/monastery provides the sanctuary for the Secretariat, the throne room of His Majesty, the King as well as other offices of the government. The monastery also contains the summer residence of the head prelate and the clergy's central office.
Try an exploratory walk on Thimphu main street as well as its market area in the evening. And do not forget to go to the Local Crafts Bazaar where you can get a glimpse of the fine traditional arts of Bhutan. There, you will have the chance to buy handicrafts, Thangkha paintings, masks, pottery, slate and wood crafts, jewelry and unique artworks made from local materials.
DAY 2: Thimpu to Paro (90 min drive)
After a good night’s sleep and a fulfilling breakfast, you can go for a round of sightseeing in popular attractions in Thimpu. The National Library is a go-to among tourists that holds a large collection of Buddhist manuscripts. A visit to the Textile Museum and Simply Bhutan allows a thorough insight into the history and heritage of the Bhutanese people.
Moving along, the drive to Paro along the highways allows an enroute visit to SimtokhaDzog which is the oldest fortress in Bhutan which was built in 1627 but now has been reformed into a school for Buddhist studies.
After checking into the hotel in Paro you are welcomed with a classical lunch followed by a visit to Ta Dzong. Built as a watch tower, the monument now houses a national museum. The vast collection of antiques that include weapons, armor, textiles and more objects of historical importance.
After immersing yourself in history, you can go for a short walk down the trail to Rinpung Dzong which means “a fortress of jewels”. The wooden galleries feature paintings and illustrations of Buddhism such ad the wheel of life, Different Mandala’s, Mount Sumeru and more.
Then you have an overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 3: A day in Paro
A filling breakfast cooked to prepare you for a challenging excursion to Taktshang Monastery (5-hour walk). Being one of the most popular of Bhutan’s monasteries that juts out from a cliff above the Paro valley this walk will really take the breath out of you. It is said that a special tigress carried Guru Rinpoche on her back to meditate here which made it called “Tigers nest”. It is regarded as a holy land of Bhutan which every Bhutanese visits at least once in their lifetime. This building was back on track just immediately after a fire disaster in 1998 and restored to what it was before the incident.
In the afternoon, you take a drive to Drukgyel Dzong, a ruined fortress that served as a bastion for Bhutanese warriors fighting off Tibetan insurgents a few centuries ago. The “mountain of goddess” Chomolhari is a glamorous sight to see on the road to Dzhong.
Kyichu Lhakhang, a 7th century temple with is one of the 108 temples built by the late king Songtsen Gambo is visited in the evening. This visit is significant as the temple marks the arrival of Buddhism in Bhutan.
DAY 4: Departure from PARO
Early breakfast at the hotel before a drive to thimpu and a flight to Kathmandu. The paperwork and formalities will be taken care of by our representatives and in the mean while you can say your farewells and prepare for departure.
DAY 01: ARRIVE PARO, DRIVE TO THIMPHU (L/D)
Fly from Kathmandu to Paro. Upon arrival in Paro, clear customs and immigration. Keep your copy of the visa clearance letter handy. Meet your Guide and driver outside the terminal building and transfer to Thimphu. Visit Buddha point, memorable choden, and you stroll around the city in the evening if time is permitted. Overnight at Hotel.
DAY 02: THIMPHU – PUNAKHA (B/L/D)
Morning sightseeing tour of Traditional School of arts & crafts and Tashicho Dzong, and Mini zoo then Drive to Punakha to visiting the Punakha dzong the second oldest in the bhutan1637 in middle of the Male and female river by the spritual leader Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, Visit Chime Lhakhang O/N at Hotel.
DAY 03: PUNAKHA - WANGDUE– PARO (B/L/D)
After Breakfast, Visit Chime Lhakhang and Punakha valley then you will drive back to Thimphu Via Douchula Pass continue drive to Paro O/N at Hotel.
DAY 04: PARO (B/L/D)
After Breakfast, Hike to Tiger nest hike aprox 4 hours. After the hike you may Kichu Lhakhang, National Museum and farm house. O/N at Hotel.
DAY 05: PARO DEPARTURE (B)
Early morning drive to airport and fly to Kathmandu. Airport pickup and drop-off to the hotel.
